Introduction

The vocational program prepares skilled human resources who have a competent skill to be ready to work and able to compete globally. The preparation of the competent human resources should also be balanced by the production of good quality of research, especially in applied based one. The number of good applied science researches will expand new insights further as well as new ways to create more positive and skilled human resources.

The 1st International Conference on Vocational Innovation and Applied Sciences (ICVIAS) 2018 is the first conference conducted by Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga, Indonesia.Bringing a big theme into a focus: ‘Sustainable Vocational Studies in Business, Engineering, and Health for Global Advancement and Competitiveness of the Nation’, this conference would be a forum for sharing and exchanging ideas and knowledge around applied research ideas in Business, Engineering and Health sectors that will further achieve global advancement and competitiveness of the nation.

This is the first call for papers for the 1st International Conference on Vocational Innovation and Applied Sciences (ICVIAS) 2018. The conference will be held in Surabaya, Indonesia from the 17th to 18th October 2018. This conference is necessary to develop and broaden knowledge in applied science research. Specifically, this conference will be beneficial for the improvement of vocational education in Indonesia. This Conference aims to provide the forum to share and discuss ideas and new development in Engineering, Technology, ICT, Vocational Education, Business, Economy, Health and Social Science.

Dr.(H.C.) Ir. Tri Rismaharini, M.T.* (Indonesia)

Tri Rismaharini is the current Mayor of Surabaya. During her tenure, Surabaya has won a number of awards including the ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City Award 2012 and the Adipura Kencana, the highest environmental awards in Indonesia. Mayor Risma was named as one of the 10 most inspiring women 2013 by Forbes Indonesia. She was also recently named one of the world’s 50 greatest leaders by Fortune magazine and was one of the top mayors listed last year by the City Mayors Foundation, an urban research institute. March 2016, she was awarded Ideal Mother Award 2016, at Cairo University, given by Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO). (*in confirmation).

Prof. Zhonghua Sun, Ph.D., M.B (Australia)

Prof. Zhonghua Sun, Ph.D., M.B is currently a Professor in medical imaging at Curtin University, Australia.  His research interests include diagnostic imaging, 3D medical image visualization and processing, and haemodynamic analysis of cardiovascular diseases. He has demonstrated a particular interest in the coronary artery disease by using computed tomography modality with aid of 3D visualization tools to assist early diagnosis and prediction of disease outcomes. In addition, he has been studying the application of using computational fluid dynamic technique to improve understanding of the development of atherosclerosis, formation of plaques and effect of plaques on the haemodynamic changes to the coronary arteries.

Prof. Shuo-Yan Chou, Ph.D is a distinguished professor of industrial management, the director of the Center for Internet of Things Innovation (CITI) at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech). Dr. Chou received his B.BA in industrial management from National Cheng-Kung University, Taiwan in 1983, his M.S and Ph.D in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan in 1987 and 1992, respectively. His research interests include Internet of Things innovation, technology-enabled service innovation, smart energy management, big data analytics, AI, blockchain, intelligent system modeling and applications, smart logistics, geometric algorithms, as well as smart city and Industry 4.0 development. He has served as the dean of international affairs at Taiwan Tech, the national coordinator of the European Union Framework Programme National Contact Point Taiwan Office, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Chinese Institute of Industrial Engineers published by Taylor and Francis as well as on the editorial boards of IJFS, ASCE JEE, JIPE, among others.

Prof. Madya Basri bin Rashid, B.A., M.BA., Ph.D is the Dean for the School of (Tourism, Hospitality and Environmental Management, Universiti Utara Malaysia. He taught graduate and undergraduate courses on Tourism and Hospitality. Among others, he conducted courses on Contemporary Issues in Tourism and Hospitality, Hospitality Seminar, Food and Beverage Cost Control, Restaurant Management, Research Methods for Tourism and Hospitality and Hospitality Strategic Management. His research interest are on the areas of Hospitality Services, Service Evaluation, Destination Management and Hospitality Training.

Prof. Hamzah bin Arof, Ph.D is currently working as a full Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Malaya, Malaysia. He received the B.Sc degree from Michigan State University, USA in 1992, and Ph.D degrees from University of Wales, Cardiff, UK in 1997. His area expertise are in Time Series Economics, Image Processing, Robotics, Biomedical Signals, and Photonics.

Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Indonesia)

Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc, Ph.D born on March, 17, 1975 as lecturer and researcher. Graduated from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 2001. He continued her study and received M.Sc at University of Twente (Netherland). He received PhD majoring in Manufacturing System and Intelligence from the University of Kobe (Japan) in 2008. He currently is a Dean of Vocational College of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. Aside from education, he established Fasnetgama Training Center (fasnetgama.co.id) & online magazine (isigood.com).

Dr. Sri Endah Nurhidayati is currently a Chief in Department of Bussines at Faculty of Vocational Education, Universitas Airlangga. She received the Bachelor degree from Universitas Airlangga in 1993 and Doctoral degrees from Uviversitas Gadjah Mada in 2013. She area expertise are in Community Based Tourism, Service and Hospitality, and Tourism Destination.

   3. Selected paper in the area of Medicine and Health Sciences in ICVIAS 2018 will be invited to publish in the Malaysian Journal Of Medicine And Health Sciences (MJMHS).
